The New York City Council published its official response to the Mayor's Fiscal 2018 Preliminary Budget on Monday, and three of the areas in which the Council has asked the de Blasio Administration to augment spending are transportation-related.

Bikestock co-founder Matthew von Ohlen was killed while riding his bicycle in Williamsburg early Saturday morning, by a hit-and-run driver who allegedly struck him intentionally before speeding off. The next day, police were reportedly at the scene of the crash handing out summonses to people on bikes for minor infractions, and passing out safe-cycling literature.

Last week, Mayor de Blasio and Motivate announced that not only will Citi Bike expand this summer in Manhattan northward to 110th Street, and into all of Brooklyn Community District 6 (Park Slope, Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, Gowanus and Red Hook), it will do so with added density. What's more, existing Citi Bike zones on the Upper East Side and Upper West Side will get additional bikes and docks, bringing the total Citi Bike network to 10,000 bikes and 600 docking stations by the end of 2016.
