Petition: Tell NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch that the Show Must Go On!

According to reporting from Streetsblog, the NYPD has killed NYC Department of Transportation plans to host as many as 20 World Cup viewing parties on city Open Streets and plazas in June and July. The overtime-loving police department claims it will be "overstretched during a busy summer that includes the World Cup games in the New York area and the nation’s 250th birthday party on July 4," according to Streetsblog.

For the vast majority of New Yorkers who can't afford exorbitantly priced FIFA match tickets, or even the absurdly inflated train fare to MetLife Stadium, outdoor viewing parties are were a fun and free way to root on your favorite team in a communal setting.

To: NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch

New Yorkers want to join fellow soccer fans to watch World Cup matches on the city's Open Streets and plazas, and NYC DOT had a plan to allow them to do just that – until NYPD said no. Don't use excuses about police resources to stand in the way of these fun, free, communal events!
