StreetsPoll: July 6, 2016

Bikestock co-founder Matthew von Ohlen was killed while riding his bicycle in Williamsburg early Saturday morning, by a hit-and-run driver who allegedly struck him intentionally before speeding off. The next day, police were reportedly at the scene of the crash handing out summonses to people on bikes for minor infractions, and passing out safe-cycling literature.

Imagine you're responsible for ensuring public safety in New York City. After an intentional vehicular killing of a person riding a bike, your next move is to:

Devote all your resources to finding the killer
Summons people on bicycles for minor infractions
Hand out leaflets to people on bikes promoting safe cycling
Do nothing – it's less insulting than victim-blaming
